SummaryA Prosthetist/Orthotist Cert Senior is specifically educated
and trained to provide advanced comprehensive orthotic and
prosthetic patient care. This includes patient assessment,
formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment
plan, follow-up and practice management. Orthotic care may include,
but is not limited to, patient evaluation, orthosis design,
fabrication, fitting and modification to treat a
neuromusculoskeletal disorder or acquired condition This includes
the provision of partial foot prostheses for transmetatarsal and
more distal amputations. Prosthetic care may include, but is not
limited to, patient evaluation, prosthesis design, fabrication,
fitting and modification to treat limb loss for purposes of
restoring physiological function and/or cosmesis. In addition the
CPO Senior has increased advanced knowledge and accountabilities as
it relates to program development, department sustainability,
mentoring, advocacy and support, and oversight of students and
residents.Accountabilities
- Assessment of patients with impairment of human movement or
musculoskeletalabnormalities that would impede their ability to
participate in their social environment orother activities in order
to determine a functional intervention. Patient assessment
mayinclude, but is not limited to, the evaluation of:*
anthropometric data, cognition, circulation, skin integrity,
protective sensation, pain, central and peripheral nerve integrity,
respiratory capacity, biomechanics, gait analysis including
temporal and spatial assessment, range of motion, muscle strength,
posture and balance, proprioception, orthotic and/or prosthetic
requirements, myoelectric activity and potential for use of
Functional Electrical Stimulation and/or Neuroprosthetics,
activities of daily living, environmental barriers including
social, home, and work reintegration, and the need for physical and
occupational therapy modalitiesExcels in the all areas of clinical
assessment from pediatrics to adults, and in both orthotics and
prosthetics as indicated in the advanced CPO competencies -
25%
- Formulation of a treatment plan based upon a comprehensive
assessment to design anintervention to alleviate limitations and
enhance function. Orthotic and Prosthetic treatmentincludes, but is
not limited to:* verification of prescription/documentation*
evaluation of the prescription rationale* a needs assessment based
on patient and/or caregiver input* assist in fabrication of
orthosis and prosthesis* analysis of structural and design
requirements* assessment of potential physical and occupational
therapy requirements* consultation with and/or referral to other
health care professionalsExcels in the all areas of the formulation
of a treatment plan from pediatrics to adults, and in both
orthotics and prosthetics as indicated in the advanced CPO
competencies - 10%
- Implementation of treatment plan and utilization of a follow-up
treatment plan that ensures successful orthotic and/or prosthetic
outcomes, patient health and quality of life which includes, but is
not limited to:* documentation of functional changes* formulation
of modifications to ensure successful outcomes* reassessment of
patient expectations* reassessment of treatment objectives*
development of long term treatment plan* confirmation of patient
education and instruction* evidence based practiceExcels in the all
areas of the implementation of a treatment plan from pediatrics to
adults, and in both orthotics and prosthetic as indicated in the
advanced CPO competencies - 25%
- Compliance with practice management plans to develop and
document policies andprocedures to ensure patient protection which
includes, but is not limited to:* adherence to applicable local,
state and federal laws and regulations* following patient care
guidelines and procedures* maintaining a safe and professional
environment for patient care* comprehension of claims development
and submissionPerform complete and accurate documentation in
accordance with Prisma policies and procedures, department policies
and procedures, and regulatory agency requirements. - 5%
- Provides oversight and mentorship for MSPO students, and
P&O residents. Exercises sound judgment in delegating task to
MSPO students and P&O residents. Is designated as a clinical
mentor by NCOPE requirements, and independently oversees all
aspects of a residents NCOPE requirements and duties, and the
requirements of a clinical mentor as outlined by NCOPE. Meets all
requirements of a Resident Director as defined by NCOPE. Provides
feedback on performance in a professional, tactful and beneficial
manner. Provides oversight to other allied health colleagues who
may participate in our department. Participates in student
orientation and provides effective learning experiences, feedback
and timely evaluation. Assists with service recovery for
patient/familyand employee complaints - 10%
- Department and team responsibilities: May be responsible for
leading staff/team meetings and assist in coordinating mandatory
in-services as scheduled. Initiate and manage assignments in a
timely and thorough manner. Assists with care, maintenance and
inventory of departmental equipment and supplies. Demonstrates
willingness to assist and is respectful of the rights of other team
members. Identify and assume a leading role with team and
department responsibilities. Assist in chart review audit process
for staff compliance. - 5%
- Program planning and development: Initiate and conduct QI
activities for the department or clinical programs. Takes a leading
role in the implementation of programs, processes and procedures.
Motivates, challenges other team members by sharing new
information, proposing initiatives, participating in brain storming
sessions and demonstrating creativity. Represents discipline or
service area in interdisciplinary forums both internally and
externally - 5%
- Functions as a mentor for staff members: Provides hospital and
departmental orientation to new staff. Facilitates new staff on
completion of clinical competencies. Provides supervision and
serves as a primary resource to clinical staff and assists them in
refining their skills. Serves as a consultant in their clinical
area of expertise. Consistently demonstrates behaviors that support
the mission, vision and values of the department and hospital -
5%
- Advocacy and support: Participates in community
events/activities. Participates in and supports Prisma Health/RCP
sponsored educational opportunities - 5%
- Achieves annual goals: Develops an annual level III work plan
with supervisor/manager. Monitors and documents work plan progress
on a quarterly basis. Responsible for providing documentation of
work plan accomplishments to supervisor/manager at annual review -
5%Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree - In Health related field with certification
and/or master's degree in Prosthetics & Orthotics.
- 5 years CPO experienceRequired Certifications, Registrations,
Licenses
- Graduation from an NCOPE approved Orthotic and Prosthetic
Program
- Completion of Residency in both orthotics and prosthetics
- ABCOP or BOC certified CPOCompletion of NCOPE Residency
