Job Description:
Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital, located in Mooresville, North

SummaryDirectly supervises sterile processing personnel during
specifiedshifts, facilitating staff and departmental efficiencies
whilemonitoring the daily operations of the department to ensure
thatap propriate quality and productivity levels are achieved.
Ensurescomplianc e with infection control policies and AAMI, AORN,
and JointCommission st andards. Acts as a liaison between the OR
and SPD,facilitating all instr umentation being ready on time,
supporting allcustomers of the department. Assures compliance with
infection controland sterilization standards, ensuring that
sterilization practices andall equipment used for deconta mination
and sterilization meet qualitystandards. Assists staff with per
formance improvement. Supervisoryresponsibilities include staff
selectio n, orientation/onboarding,performance evaluation,
counseling, and staff development.Work PerformedSchedules and
supervises the work of assigned staff to ensure smoothworkflow in
the department. S chedules staff in accordance withdepartment
needs. Acts as a knowledge r esource to staff in matters
ofdepartment processes, technical skills, eq uipment, supplies
and/orregulatory requirements.Selects, trains and mana ges the
performance of staff. Provides dailydirection to staff. Sets goa ls
for individuals and for the team. Acts asa mentor and coach and
provi des development and growth opportunities forstaff.Coordinate
and maintai n departmental workflow in decontamination,
theinspection of instruments /trays, cleaning, assembling and
packaging ofsurgical instruments, medic al/surgical materials and
equipment.Proficiency in utilization of instru mentation bar code
tracking systems(SPM, Epic and Dove Tree).Monitors in ventory of
supplies, equipment. Coordinate procurement andstocking activ
ities. Analyze usage patterns of supplies and recommendoptimal par
level s. Assists in developing goals, targets and
actionplans.Facilitates time ly ordering of instrumentation and
supplies. Identifiesopportunities forcost reduction and expense
control. Providesmanagement with information for forecasting
futureinstrumentation/equipment needs. Track and docume nt lost or
damagedequipment and supplies.Identifies opportunities to imp rove
work processes and enableachievement of goals in quality, productiv
ity and customer satisfaction.Provides a forum for staff
involvement in problem identification andresolutions. Develops and
implements solutions to address opportunitiesto improve quality,
safety, efficiency and prod uctivity.Provides for ongoing
communications with staff and ancillarydep artments. Participates
in hospital teams, as assigned, in order toshare information,
problem solve, and evaluate the impact of services toreceiv ing

section.ExperienceMinimum o f three years of experience as a
Sterile Processing Technicianto include either one year of previous
leadership experience in a teamlead/supervi sory or peer leadership
capacity.In addition to extensive SPD knowledge, other skillsets
preferred are asfollows; strong customer service, team building,
multitasking, attentionto detail, organization, and with demon
strated communication skills(diplomacy and tact).Degrees, Licens
ures, CertificationsCurrent certification as a Sterile Processin g
Technician through anaccredited organization (CRCST - Certified
Regist ered Central ServiceTech, HSPA, or Certified Sterile
Processing and Dist ribution TechnicianCBSPD). - Duke is an
